SIGBPS AOI: Knowledge-intensive Processes

Track Chairs:

Amit Deokar (Dakota State University)
Surendra Sarnikar (Dakota State University)

Track Description:

This track aims to advance research in the area of knowledge-intensive processes (KIP) that are characterized by high reliance on knowledge support requirements and resources. Particularly, the experiential and expert knowledge, along with innovation and creativity afforded by knowledge workers involved is often essential to effective execution of such processes. As such, conventional business process management systems are not suited for this class of organizational processes and have to rely on knowledge management initiatives and systems for enactment and support. Given the human and organizational aspects involved, research is needed at the bridge of knowledge management systems and business process management systems to address challenges and research issues in this area.

We particularly encourage research related to modeling, management, technologies, metrics and support mechanisms for knowledge-intensive processes.  Design science, behavioral, conceptual as well as empirical research studies will be considered in this track. Possible topics include:

  • Integrated view of knowledge management and business process management ecosystem
  • Knowledge management and process lifecycle management
  • Technical and managerial challenges in knowledge-intensive process support
  •  Modeling of knowledge-intensive processes
  •  Knowledge management related metrics in business processes
  •  Applications and case studies related to knowledge-intensive processes
